Application to Change Status from Student Visa to Gijinkoku Visa

I secured a job offer in January, right before graduation. The company urged me to get my visa quickly, so I sought advice. I tried applying for the change myself, but couldn't figure it out even after looking at the Immigration Bureau's website.

About a month passed, and the company kept pressing me to hurry, so I consulted with MTM Immigration Law Office. After several email exchanges, they submitted the application to Immigration within two weeks. We successfully changed my status to a Gijinkoku visa within the short period of two months. Thank you very much.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What's the difference between applying myself and having you handle it?

We handle everything for you: preparing documents, confirming which visa type you need, obtaining official documents in Japan, communicating with your employer, and liaising with immigration after submission. Having professionals handle this ensures a faster, error-free application, making your visa change process smoother.

Can I work part-time after graduation until I get a work visa?

The permission for activities outside your status of residence, which allowed you to work part-time for up to 28 hours per week while a student, expires upon graduation. Make sure to complete the change procedures before you graduate.

When can I start changing my residence status (visa)?

If you plan to start working in April, you can begin the process around December. Since this period sees many change applications, apply early. Our office offers up to a 30% discount on fees for early requests.

Can a residence status (visa) change be processed urgently?

Yes, we can handle it for the fastest possible application depending on your situation. First, please schedule a free consultation so we can confirm your current situation, including when you plan to start working at the company and the expiration date of your student visa.

What documents are required?

Documents include your graduation (or expected graduation) certificate, Japanese language test results, and documents confirming your employment. However, the specific documents needed vary depending on your situation and the company you will work for. We will provide details after your free consultation.

I haven't secured a job yet. Can I continue job hunting after graduation?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to change your visa status from a student visa to another specific type of visa.

Where and how can I get consultation?

For online meetings (LINE, Zoom, Teams, etc.), we'll send you the link once the date and time are set.

For in-person meetings, let's decide the location via message or email. (Travel expenses apply for locations outside Aichi Prefecture.)
